Free Write Jail Arts and Literacy Program Presents:
UPRISE 5!!
Uprise is a youth event focusing on social justice and hip hop and was created to celebrate the abilities and importance of youth in our community and movement building. As the fifth annual Uprise, this year’s theme is Uprise 5: Uprise Against Police Brutality and it will take place at the Chicago Art Department(1932 S Halsted #100) from 2 pm - 8 pm on Saturday, Sept 26 , 2015.
Festivities for the day include performances from local artists and headliners, a bboy/bgirl battle, a Hip-Hop and R&B Online Cypher, and a graffiti battle.
Uprise will be held from afternoon until night. The workshops, the graffiti battle and bboy/bgirl battles will take place throughout the day and the evening will conclude with performance and announcing the winners of the battles. This is open to the community and we hope to create a safe space that fosters the creativity, talents, experiences and stories of youth in Chicago in a fashion that can only be described as One Love.
